Cognex today announced a new high-speed steerable mirror for use with the DataMan 470 barcode reader, which provides a compact single-camera barcode reading system for large field of view applications.
This new steering mirror accessory expands the vertical and horizontal field of view of DataMan barcode readers, providing effective resolution above 50 million pixel sensors for 3 million pixel and 5 million pixel readers. Combined with the new liquid lens technology, the system is able to dynamically change the field of view and depth of field. Users can now use a single DataMan system to address pallet scanning, aggregation, and other large field of view scanning applications that previously required high-resolution PC vision or multiple fixed sensors.
This steering mirror is pre-installed on the front of the DataMan 470 barcode reader from the factory. Operators can use the built-in, web-based setup wizard to configure and quickly deploy applications in less than 5 minutes. The user simply enters the relevant application specification information, and the setup wizard will automatically calculate an optimized scan pattern to ensure high read rates in a short cycle time.
"High-speed steerable mirrors are a game-changer for large field of view applications that typically require multi-reader solutions," said Matt Moschner, senior director of ID products at Cognex. "E-commerce and logistics companies can now deploy solutions faster and get them up and running faster, with the same high accuracy of barcode reading results at lower maintenance costs." "
