Background
One crucial component of automotive dashboards and control panels is the decal, a thin plastic sheet imprinted with markings for the speedometer and tachometer. Each decal must be precisely positioned and accurately cut; otherwise, the vibrations generated when the vehicle is in motion can cause the decal to shift, resulting in incorrect speed and tachometer readings.
System Overview
To ensure accurate assembly verification, an advanced visual solution is employed using Cognex's high-performance In-Sight Micro, meeting the required inspection speed. The compact In-Sight Micro, with dimensions of just 30mm x 30mm x 60mm, successfully checks the alignment of pointers on speedometers, tachometers, fuel gauges, and temperature gauges for each dashboard. It also accommodates common space limitations in various production equipment. Two cameras are installed on each production line, positioned alongside LED point light sources. Powerful visual processing methods ensure precise part positioning.
Work Results
Each workpiece is manually loaded into the equipment by operators, inspected, and then removed. The inspection results are viewed on a PC monitor. If any defects are found, the system prints a fault notification to alert the operator. All results are sent to the factory's CIM system for performance monitoring. Once the operator presses the "Reject" button, all defective workpieces are manually removed from the equipment. Since the system's operation, the normal operating rate has exceeded 99%.
Application Field
Automotive component assembly, surface film application, surface quality inspection.
