1. Bright field lighting
Bright field lighting is the standard method for surface inspection with line scan cameras, and the camera and lighting equipment should be arranged in such a way that the camera is at the reflection Angle of the lighting equipment (incidence Angle = reflection Angle). In this way, as much incident light as possible is detected. This is particularly effective in the case of reflective materials. In this way, bright areas are shown as bright and dark areas as dark. If the Angle of the surface structure is not suitable for alignment but is tilted, they will also appear dark in the camera image. Scratches on the surface or tilted phases, etc., have darker shades of gray in the image.
2. Dark field lighting
Line scan cameras can also be used to achieve dark field effects. For this reason, the lighting is not aimed at the component at a reflective Angle, but is significantly flatter. Directly reflected light does not hit the camera, so the image field appears dark, so the camera can only detect weak stray light. The technique requires a lot of light. Scratches, gaps, elevations or reliefs appear bright when scattering light due to their uneven surface. The ideal method for detecting surface defects in smooth materials.
3. Backlight lighting
In this lighting situation, the camera and the lighting are directly opposite each other, the test object is right between them, in this way the outline of the opaque material can be seen, the edge chipping can be detected and the components can be measured. This method for transparent objects (such as glass and metal foils, etc.) can be used to make bubbles or cracks or edge debris visible in the material.
