Background
In-line inspection on the assembly line allows for the detection of non-conforming brake pads based on measurements of their external dimensions, recognition of surface patterns and text, and identification of specific features.
System Overview
The system utilizes cameras from Cognex's In-Sight Micro series, which are compact and a
utonomous with dimensions of 30x30x60mm. These cameras can perform reliable inspections without the need for an image controller or computer. To meet the brake pad inspection requirements, two camera models were selected, the 1100 (Standard for character reading) and 1050 (Simplified version). The system displays inspection results on a screen and communicates the results to the PLC for controlling the rejection of defective p
roducts.
- The Micro 1100 is used to inspect the printed content on the brake pads, including checks for label presence, batch numbers, and date information.
- The Micro 1050 is employed for inspecting riveted accessories, angle deviations, thickness, and other features.
Work Effectiveness
After on-site commissioning, the customer has reported that Cognex's In-Sight system offers fast processing, flexible and user-friendly programming, and robust functionality. It effectively addresses the customer's concerns and seamlessly integrates with other industrial equipment on-site. Through Cognex's vision inspection, the customer has achieved a defect detection rate of 0%.
