    Background

    In the packaging production workshop of a tire manufacturing company, it is common to encounter issues where tire logos are applied incorrectly or different branded tires (with identical outer dimensions) are packaged together, leading to significant material mix-up. Manual recognition of logos is slow, labor-intensive, and lacks reliability.

    System Performance

    This inspection system offers a wide field of view, covering a circular area of up to 600mm in diameter, making it compatible with tires of various diameter specifications. The system has a large depth of field, allowing it to inspect tires of different width sizes bearing logos. It employs a custom-made diffuse ultra-large light source to overcome issues related to insufficient brightness in regular lighting and uneven illumination, which can lead to image glare. The system uses a 5-megapixel CCD camera from Cognex and a high-resolution lens of 5-megapixel class from Kowa, ensuring excellent detail resolution and high contrast in images, even in large field of view conditions. These factors contribute to achieving high-quality image results, which, when combined with Cognex's powerful VisionPro vision software, enhance the accuracy and stability of inspections.

     

    Regarding system operation, it is straightforward and easy to set up for new product models, requiring minimal steps and offering user-friendly, intuitive operation. Product models can be conveniently selected and switched using 10 buttons on the machine, without the need for programming by personnel.



    The system operates on a principle where, when a product is manually placed on the oiling equipment, a sensor triggers the vision system to capture images. Based on the processing results, the oiling equipment is controlled. If a tire is detected as non-compliant (NG), the oiling equipment remains inactive. If a tire is detected as compliant (OK), the oiling equipment is activated to apply oil to the tire.

    - NG detection rate: 100%

    - Recognition efficiency: 0.5 seconds per tire

Over the long-term usage, the system has demonstrated its ability to consistently and reliably detect mixed-up tires, and its user-friendly software operation surpasses the customer's expectations in terms of convenience and accuracy.
